DCFS Gets Major Funding Increase

(CHICAGO) — The new state budget includes more money to better support the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services.

The hope is that an increase to the budget will prevent any more kids from slipping through the cracks. State Rep. Greg Harris (D-Chicago) says the funding will help with hiring and training.

“We’ve all seen the terrible stories coming out of DCFS so it was a number one priority for all of us to give the resources to protect the children of Illinois,” Harris said. “One hundred thirty million dollars goes into DCFS this year for new programs and training and hundreds of new employees.”

This is the largest budget increase the agency has seen in years.
