(CHICAGO) — Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul Tuesday announced that a Kane County man was charged with possessing child pornography as part of the Attorney General’s ongoing efforts to apprehend the most active offenders who download and trade child pornography online.

Jeffery L. Gwin, 57, of Huntley, Ill., was charged in Kane County Circuit Court with 10 counts of possession of child pornography. Because of his prior conviction for aggravated criminal sexual abuse, all 10 counts are Class 1 felonies punishable by four to 15 years in prison. Gwin’s bond was set at $100,000, and his arraignment is scheduled for July 10.

“Child pornography is an abhorrent crime that exploits innocent children and their families each time an image is downloaded or shared,” Raoul said. “I am committed to partnering with local law enforcement agencies, through the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, to identify and protect the public from these offenders.”

Raoul’s investigators, with the assistance of the Huntley Police Department and the Kane County State’s Attorney’s office, conducted a search of a residence on Tuesday, June 25 in the 12000 block of Cherry Hill Lane in Huntley and arrested Gwin after investigators say they found evidence of alleged child pornography.

The case will be prosecuted by Raoul’s office with Kane County State’s Attorney Joseph H. McMahon’ s office.

“With today’s technology, pornographic images of children never go away, lingering forever in cyberspace and victimizing the children depicted over and over again. My thanks to Attorney General Kwame Raoul for working with our office and with law enforcement at all levels to ensure that these offenders are held accountable,” McMahon said.

“The Huntley Police Department takes the victimization of children as a priority and will continue to support the investigative efforts of the Attorney General’s Office on internet crimes,” Deputy Chief Michael Klunk said. “The downloading and sharing of these types of images increases the risks of our juvenile community and creates an atmosphere contrary to the safety and development of our youth, in which the Village of Huntley is striving to maintain. The Huntley Police Department strives to allocate resources to protect our children and maintain a safe and friendly community.”
