New Zealanders Have Surrendered 10,000 Guns Since Christchurch Shooting

Residents of New Zealand have surrendered more than 10,000 firearms in the wake of last month’s deadly mosque shootings in Christchurch.

The nation banned semi-automatic weapons after the July 13th incident, where a 28-year-old Australian man killed 51 people and injured many more.

So far, 10,242 guns have been surrendered by citizens who were paid back according to the gun’s value – up to 95 percent of the price for new weapons in good condition. The program will continue for an additional five months.
