New Questions about “Moscow Mitch” and Russian Company

He hates his nickname “Moscow Mitch” after refusing to support legislation that would defend foreign interests from meddling in U.S. elections. Now Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is coming under fire for lifting sanctions against a Russian company who was then awarded a massive contract to build an aluminum mill in Kentucky.

Time magazine and NBC reports that even though Russian company Rusal had sanctions against them for possible election interference, McConnell flew overseas to talk to the company’s CEO. While both parties say there were no negotiations about the mill, two days later sanctions were lifted, giving the green light to build in Kentucky.

It’s also been revealed that one of Rusal’s major investors donated over a million dollars to a GOP campaign fund tied to McConnell. McConnell denies the report from Time magazine.
