A 125-Year-Old Dime Just Sold for $1.32 Million

So how much is a dime worth? 10 cents, right? That depends because someone just paid $1.32 million for a dime at a Chicago coin auction.

According to Stack’s Bowers Galleries, this wasn’t your run of the mill 10 cent piece, it was an 1894-S Barber Dime and is one of only 24 that were ever made.

It was designed by engraver Charles E. Barber, who designed many coins for U.S. Mints, and only nine of these coins are confirmed to still exist.
