As several states sound the alarm over a suspected link between a spike in lung illness and vaping, Illinois reports a death in the state is linked to the new habit.
Officials said Friday that the individual was hospitalized with severe respiratory illness.
Reuters reports the number of hospitalizations related to e-cigarettes or vaping has doubled in the state. Patients ranged in age from 17-38 and had symptoms including coughing, shortness of breath, fatigue and even vomiting and diarrhea.
Nebraska also issued a health alert regarding vaping on Thursday. The state is asking medical providers to investigate possible links to illnesses. The alert was in response to cases in Wisconsin.
