Pioneering Journalist Cokie Roberts Dies at 75

Veteran journalist Cokie Roberts, whose storied career pioneered NPR and raised the intellectual standard covering Washington for PBS and ABC, has died at 75, losing her battle to breast cancer.

As a woman covering the rough and tumble world of politics, Roberts was named one of the 50 greatest women in the history of broadcasting by American Women in Radio and Television. She was three Emmys, an Edward R. Murrow and Walter Cronkite award.

Roberts, named a “living legend” by the Library of Congress, was also called “revolutionary” by NPR, saying she was one of the “founding mothers of NPR.”
