The Sixers played a preseason game against China’s Guangzhou Loong Lions on Thursday, and sure enough, some Hong Kong-related drama played out.
Two fans were ejected from the game for holding up signs and shouting “Free Hong Kong.
One of the fans, 33-year-old Sam Wachs, says he was first warned by a security guard who told him “no politics”. The guard later confiscated the signs, and Wachs was ejected after standing up and shouting “Free Hong Kong”.
Wachs is a former Hong Kong resident who lives in Philadelphia. The incident is the latest wrinkle in the ongoing controversy involving the NBA, China, and the pro-democracy protests in Hong Kong.
