A Texas mom is behind bars after forcing her 10-year-old son to undergo more than a dozen unnecessary surgeries.

Prosecutors say Kaylene Bowen-Wright forced her son into 13 major surgeries and hundreds of doctor visits, despite being perfectly healthy.

Bowen-Wright is believed to have Munchausen-by-proxy, a syndrome in which a child’s guardian exaggerates their health issues or even induces them to get attention and sympathy.

She pleaded guilty and was sentenced to six years in prison. The boy is now in custody of his father.
