Ready to feel old? This week marks the 10th anniversary of the infamous “Balloon Boy Hoax”, which captured the nation’s attention before being revealed as a scam.

On October 15th, 2009, a Colorado family launched a massive, silver helium balloon – only to realize their 6-year-old son Falcon Heene was inside.

TV networks followed the balloon as it traveled 7,000 feet in the air – until it was revealed that Falcon had been hiding in the attic the whole time.

Eventually Falcon revealed that the whole thing was a publicity stunt hatched by his parents, both of whom ended up doing jail time for their part in the ruse.
