The Chicago Public Schools District has cancelled classes Thursday for its roughly 300,000 students as teachers there plan to strike.
The City’s Mayor says the Union’s demands would cost Chicago $2.5 billion that it doesn’t have.
Despite cancelled classes, schools will still open so kids have someplace to go and a meal to eat.
In addition to better pay, teachers are asking for more social workers, librarians, counselors, nurses, and help for homeless students, the Chicago Tribune reports.
