On Tuesday afternoon, the U.S. House of Representatives sent a clear message to Beijing by throwing its support behind pro-democracy activists in Hong Kong.

Lawmakers put their stamp of approval on what’s being called the Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act.

The bill has broad bipartisan support, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said: “Democrats and Republicans in the House and in the Senate stand united with the people of Hong Kong.”
