Vice President Mike Pence announced Thursday that the U.S. had reached a deal with Turkey on a temporary ceasefire in northern Syria.

Turkey has agreed to suspend military operations for 120 hours to allow Kurdish fighters to retreat from the Syria/Turkey border. However, the Turkish Foreign Minister insists the agreement is “not a ceasefire”.

Pence and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo traveled to Turkey this week to negotiate after Turkish President Recep Erdogan launched his incursion following the withdrawl of 1,000 U.S. troops from Syria.
