Economy Added 145,000 Jobs In December

The US capped off a decade of solid employment growth, adding 145,000 jobs in the final month of 2019, according to figures released Friday by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Economists expected the number to hit 160,000, still far below November’s 256,000, which was driven by workers returning from a 40-day General Motors strike.

The unemployment rate stayed fixed at 3.5 percent, a 50-year-low for the nation.

Over the course of the 2010s, the economy added close to 2 million jobs.
