Police: Woman Kept Sister Caged in Living Room

A Pennsylvania woman has been accused of keeping her sister in a wooden cage in her living room.

Vestaburg resident Leona Biser, 51, faces neglect and false imprisonment charges in connection to the crime. Authorities say Biser kept her sister, 53-year-old Loretta Lancaster, “in a wooden cage with only a dirty mattress and little to no medical care.” Investigators, who haven’t revealed what led them to discovering Lancaster, say she’s been sent to a facility, where she’s working with a speech therapist and re-learning to use her muscles.

“This defendant professed to be caring for her sister when, in fact, the home was in deplorable condition, had no running water and the victim was not getting her prescribed medicines,” says Attorney General Josh Shapiro. “We fight to protect those who cannot protect themselves. And our agents have made sure the victim has received needed care and will no longer have to suffer daily living in a cage.”
