Story by 89 WLS Reporter Bill Cameron
Is it possible that Rod Blagojevich was more victim than crook?
Tina Butler, an insider in Dick Mell’s 33rd ward political organization who is retiring as City Council Sergeant-at-Arms, helped elect Blagojevich as state representative, congressman and governor. She says that Blagojevich was surrounded by 'players,' and he was just following their lead.
"I really don’t think that he thought what he was doing was corrupt. The people that were around him, I think, knew the road much better than Rod did. The people that he surrounded himself with were players. They knew the ins and outs of politics," Butler said.
Butler also said that 14 years in prison is too much for what Blagojevich did.
