(AURORA) An Aurora woman is dead after the vehicle she was driving left I-88 and landed in a retention pond near Eola Road on Aurora’s far northeast side Saturday night.
Emory Sepulveda, 20, of the 600 block of View Street in Aurora was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:11 a.m., according to the DuPage County Coroner’s office.
There also were three passengers in the vehicle -- Irene M. Affatati, 48, of North Aurora, and two juveniles -- who were rescued and taken to area hospitals. No updates were available on the extent of their injuries.
At 7:26 p.m. Saturday, state police responded to a report of a vehicle that had verved off I-88 near Eola Road and was submerged in a retention pond. The vehicle was pulled from the pond shortly thereafter, according the police.
Emergency search crews pulled Sepulveda’s body from the water at 2:57 a.m. Sunday, police said.
According to Master Sergeant Carlos of the Illinois State Police, the cause of the crash is still unknown. No other vehicles were believed to be involved in the accident.
