1 dead, 3 wounded in weekend violence

One person is dead and three others wounded from gun violence in the city between Friday evening and Saturday morning.
 
About 8:30 p.m. Friday, a resident of a building in the 3900 block of North Central Avenue in the Portage Park neighborhood found a man in the hallway, suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest, police said. The unresponsive man, 21-year-old Manuel Hernandez, who lived in that same building, was taken to Our Lady of the Resurrection Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 8:58 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office. Police on Saturday morning had no additional details on the shooting and no one was in custody.
 
Early Saturday a woman in her 20s was shot in the foot in the West Side Lawndale neighborhood. The shooting occurred about 5 a.m. in the 1600 block of South Kedvale Avenue, police News Affairs Robert Perez said.
 
Late Friday, two men were shot in the Southwest Side Gage Park neighborhood.
 
They were walking in the 5200 block of South California Avenue at 11:33 p.m. when someone started shooting, police News Affairs Officer Ron Gaines said. One man, 19, was shot in the back and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, Gaines said. The other man, 20, was shot in the side and taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County. Both were in good condition early Saturday, Gaines said.
