Two people were killed and at least six others were wounded in weekend shootings across the city, police said.
On Saturday evening in the Southwest Side Little Village neighborhood, a 17-year-old boy was shot to death and a teen who was with him was wounded.
Oscar Marquez, 17, of the 700 block of South Oakley Boulevard and his 18-year-old cousin were in a vehicle near South Western Avenue and West Cermak Road when a gunman drove up, exited his vehicle and opened fire on the two with a shotgun about 6:15 p.m., authorities said.
The 18-year-old drove the two to Rush University Medical Center, but by the time they arrived, Marquez had died, authorities said.
He had been shot in the head with, according to police. The 18-year-old survivor was listed in “stable” condition and was transferred to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, police said.
On Friday, an 18-year-old woman was fatally shot in the shoulder in Humboldt Park about 7 p.m., authorities said
Frances Colon, of the 2900 block of West Armitage Avenue, was shot in the 1100 block of North Pulaski and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where she died about an hour and fifteen minutes later, authorities said.
Four other people were wounded in non-fatal shootings since Friday afternoon, police said.
A 17-year-old boy was wounded in a shooting in the West Side Lawndale neighborhood about 1:50 p.m. Sunday in the 2400 block of South Pulaski, according to police.
The teen was shot three times in the legs, police said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was “stable,” according to police. Further details were not available.
Later, Sunday night, a 28-year-old man was shot while he was in a white Chevrolet Blazer in the 2200 block of North Keating Avenue on the Northwest Side.
Authorities say at least one gunman approached and opened fire, shooting the man through the windshield of the SUV just after 9 p.m.
The man was taken to an area hospital with a gunshot wound to the shoulder and is listed in good condition, police said.
Earlier in the weekend on Saturday a man was shot in the 6700 block of South Bell Avenue in Englewood about 5:30 p.m.,, police said. The 29-year-old man was sitting in his car when he was shot in the hip, police said. He was taken in “stable” condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.
Then, about 7:15 p.m., two men were shot in the 7800 block of South Merrill Avenue in the South Chicago neighborhood, police said. The men were sitting on a porch when two suspects came out of a nearby gangway and fired several shots, striking a 19-year-old in the ankle and a 20-year-old in the knee, police said. Both men were taken in good condition to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County.
No one is in custody for any of the shootings.
