Inbound expressway traffic was snarled Tuesday morning due to several vehicle crashes, according to the Illinois State Police.
Three of the crashes occurred about 5 a.m. in the in-bound “local” lanes of the Dan Ryan Expressway near Pershing Road, backing up traffic and significantly increasing commute times, state police said.
Icy road condition caused the spin-outs, which prompted authorities to briefly shut down the “local” in-bound lanes of the Dan Ryan, according to the Illinois Department of Tranportation.
A fourth crash occurred about 5:30 a.m. on the Kennedy Expressway near Chicago Avenue, state police said.
State police said they did not immediately know what caused the four separate crashes.
