Something very unusual at City Hall this afternoon.

Here at City Hall, the aldermen meeting in the rules committee voted 25-3 to table Mayor Emanuel's latest ethics ordinance.

During debate, downtown Alderman Brendan Reilly complained that the proposal would allow unsworn complaints against the aldermen, "No one's looking to protect aldermen or their staff from legitimate complaints regarding abuse. We all want to see that go away. The concern is that this will be used as a blunt instrument to hurt aldermen that someone either wants to take down in an election or an alderman who is making decisions on behalf of their constituents that that person may not like."

Mayor Emanuel says he's open to changes, but will not compromise on his goal to hold the aldermen to the highest standards.
