Application deadline for Jackson's 7th ward seat extended

Those with an eye on former Ald. Sandi Jackson’s open 7th ward seat have until Monday to file applications, after Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s office extended the deadline for registration.
Initially paperwork was supposed to be filed either in person or online by 5 p.m. Friday. But technical glitches caused the city’s website to crash and so the deadline was extended, the mayor’s office explained in a statement.
Applicants now have until 5 p.m. on Monday to submit paperwork for Jackson’s old South Side seat, which she stepped down from on January 15.
As mayor, Emanuel has 60 days after the resignation takes effect to make an appointment to fill Jackson’s seat.
