Story by 89 WLS Reporter Bill Cameron
(CHICAGO) A successor to convicted Cook County Commissioner Bill Beavers may be chosen as early as Thursday as ward and township committeeman meet to hear the candidates.
The leading candidate himself has an ethical issue. Stanley Moore supposedly did political work on government time, but the chairman of this selection committee, Alderman Howard Brookings Jr, tells reporter Bill Cameron he’s still backing Moore.
Brookings: I would note that if everybody was seen as an ethical violation who filled out their NCAA brackets on company time or who went on the internet on Black Friday to do some shopping, everybody would be disqualified.
Cameron: Yeah, but it looks bad.
Brookings: It does give some pause with respect to that and I understand the appearances of it, but in Chicago I would also note, politics is a full-contact sport.
So don’t count Mr. Moore out.
