Firefighters discovered a charred body after extinguishing a dumpster fire on the Northwest Side late Sunday night.
About 11:05 p.m. firefighters were called to the 3100 block of North Kimball Avenue in the Avondale neighborhood after receiving a report of a dumpster blaze in a nearby alley, police said.
After the flames were extinguished, fire fighters noticed the body lying in the dumpster, though it was not immediately clear if the person died in the fire, authorities said. Investigators have not yet identified the dead person.
Police were conducting a “death investigation” early Monday, but did not declare the death a homicide.
Area North detectives are investigating.
