Online registration for the Bank of America Chicago Marathon will remain suspended through the end of the week as race organizers iron out computer glitches.

The sign-up process became plagued with problems on Tuesday, the opening day of marathon registration. Race officials said 30,000 runners were able to sign up before race organizers pulled the plug. About 15,000 spots remain open.

Registration will most likely remain shut down through Sunday, race director Carey Pinkowski said Wednesday night.

"It's disappointing, but we'll get through it," he said.

Last year, registration filled to capacity in a record six days, a benchmark that would have undoubtedly been shattered if not for the complications.

Nearly 99 percent of runners who unwittingly registered twice have received refunds, race organizers said Wednesday.
