Wednesday kicks off the season for Chicago City Vehicle Sticker sales.
City Clerk Susana Mendoza says she is happy to announce sales are starting two weeks earlier than the usual June 1st start date and you can expect a renewal form to appear in your mailbox in the next few days.
Prices have not changed, but there is one big change when you go to purchase your sticker: you need to bring your renewal form with you if you buy a sticker in person.
The renewal form has Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) data and that is a new requirement to buy the sticker. Other accepted forms for VIN documentation are vehicle registration, title, or insurance card with the VIN on it.
Mendoza says it is "an anti-fraud measure" to "ensure [they] have the most accurate data...and allow [them] to assign a new renewal month" for Year-Round sales.
Year-Round sales will not start until June 2014; it will operate much like the Illinois Secretary of State's system and be much more efficient.
You can purchase a new sticker via mail, in-person at City Hall or through community vendors, or through the Clerk's EZ>BUY system here.
New stickers must be displayed by June 15th, 2013.
