(CHICAGO) The Illinois Supreme Court recently ruled that Mayor Rahm Emanuel doesn't have to honor the subpoenas of the city's inspector general, so some of the progressive aldermen are proposing reforms.
What these aldermen want is for the City Inspector General’s subpoenas to be respected by the mayor.
Alderman Scott Waguespack says the Inspector General’s Office is important and the parking meter debacle proves it.
“We’re losing our shirt, our pants, and everything else and that was one specific example of where the inspector general stepped up and proved the point that we were trying to make,” Waguespack said.
Chances for Waguespack getting what he wants are almost nil because the reforms have to go thru the City Council’s Rules Committee, the council’s burying ground.
