(CHICAGO) Peoria Congressman Aaron Schock says he won't after all run for governor next year, but will run for re-election instead. Leading Democrat, Senator Dick Durbin, decoded the Schock decision.
Durbin says he thinks Aaron Schock saw the writing on the wall. And here’s what Durbin says the writing said.
“It was a crowded field and it was going to be a very difficult uphill battle for him and he’d have to give up his House Congressional seat to do it. He was drawn a very comfortable Republican House district and I think it was pretty clear that staying in the House at this point in his career was better for him, at least, that’s what his campaign manager said.”
And it’s also worth mentioning that when politicians decide not to seek higher office, the reason usually is that they don’t think they can win.
