(CHICAGO) At City Hall, there's a new controversy over one place Mayor Rahm Emanuel gets tens of thousands of dollars worth of campaign cash.
The mayor likes to remind everyone that he’s the reform mayor who doesn’t take campaign cash from companies that do business with the city. He does take cash from hotel developers who get okays for their projects from City Hall.
No conflict says the mayor. Indeed, he says he has stood up to hotel developers on one issue.
“Even though they support me, we had a very public dispute as it related to the garage fee,” Emanuel said. “And so even when they support me, I’ve told them when I think they’re on the wrong side and I haven’t backed down from that.”
And that says the mayor is a character and value statement.
