(CHICAGO) Mayor Emanuel's compromise on the issue of free water for churches and other not-for-profits made it through the city council Wednesday, but there's still some doubt about how it will work.
The aldermen approved the mayor’s water deal with a promise to the churches that later the rules and regulations of the new program will give poor churches truly in need a break on their water bills.
But Archdiocese Chancellor Jimmy Lago had this to say:
Lago: It’s a leap of faith and we’re looking for the goodwill of those who will be in the room with us and we expect that. We will also have some aldermen participate with us, kind of looking over the shoulder and making sure that happens.
Cameron: Do you trust Rahm?
Lago: Well, I trust the people that will be in the room.
The mayor says institutions doing vital work will be protected
