(CHICAGO) With a federal government shutdown looming, the impact in Illinois would go far beyond the federal workers who stand to temporarily lose their jobs.
Thousands of employees in dozens of federal agencies would not be at work, and Doug Whitley, chief of the Illinois Chamber of Commerce, says the ripple effect would hurt Illinois small business.
“Whether it be an industrial plant that is shut down or a military base that is shut down or a federal office building that’s shut down, all the small retailers around those facilities are likely to feel definitely the slow down in their economy, which, depending on their year is going, could definitely affect whether their going to make a profit that year,” Whitley said.
And that is a very big deal for small business.
