Story by 89 WLS reporter Bill Cameron
Governor Quinn paid a political price for his Hail Mary that fell flat yesterday on pension reform.
Governor Pat Quinn looked weak when Speaker Madigan ignored his super commission idea to try to break the logjam on pension reform.
It is re-kindling the notion that this governor is irrelevant and that Madigan and Senate President Cullerton run the show down in Springfield.
It's not the first time Quinn has been painted this way. Several months ago, he had this response, "Har dee har har. That's all I gotta say. Check with Ralph Cramden and the Honeymooners on that one."
And here's why Quinn thinks he is relevant, "I have the ability to summon the people behind really important causes. You really judge a governor by taking on the tough challenges. There's always gonna be people in politics who do piddly, diddly things and never amount to much."
