Story by 89 WLS Reporter Bill Cameron
(CHICAGO) The ongoing state legislative hearings into more gun control are producing more controversial arguments from the National Rifle Association's Springfield lobbyist.
Todd Vandermyde is provocative in his defense of the 2nd Amendment.
Here’s his latest, in opposition to reporting a lost, stolen or sold firearm.
“It’s a gotcha situation,” Vandermyde said. “And the bill also contains provisions to remove or revoke a fundamental constitutional right for failure to report a property crime. Now, what’s the penalty for not reporting a rape in the state of Illinois? If somebody’s not going to be criminally charged or held liable for a sexual assault that they failed to report, then how do you remove a fundamental constitutional right for failure to report a property crime?”
