(CHICAGO) How would you feel about your boss being allowed to ask you for you for your username and password for any of your personal internet accounts?
During debate in the Illinois House, Republican Jim Durkin argued bosses need this if they think you’re planning a crime in the workplace.
“We are in a challenging world om which there are acts of violence that occur on a regular basis, but also to one employee to another or one employee who says to another I’m gonna shoot the boss!”
Durkin said the employees could refuse without losing their jobs, but Democrat Mary Flowers said that’s not good enough.
“Now he may not say or she may not say I’ll lose my job because I did not give up that information, but it can be assumed that it might happen and so therefore I would be willing to give it up.”
But she lost. The House sent the idea to the state Senate with nine votes to spare.
