A male died after he was found shot inside a car near the Eisenhower Expressway on the West Side, authorities said.
The shooting happened about 4:30 a.m. at a gas station in the 5200 block of West Jackson Boulevard in the Austin neighborhood, police said.
A male, whose age was not immediately available, was shot, said police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said.
The wounded person then drove himself to the 600 block of South Kostner Avenue, which is near an expressway onramp and where authorities found him, police said.
Illinois State Police said the shooting did not occur on the expressway and that the vehicle carrying the wounded man never made it onto the expressway. State Police said Chicago Police are handling the investigation.
Paramedics took the wounded person to Mount Sinai Hospital, Alfaro said.
The two far right eastbound lanes on the expressway were closed as investigators collected details, State Police said.
