A 63-year-old Nigerian man was found dead at the site of a Sunday house fire in Gary.

At 1:40 p.m., Lake County Coroner’s Office investigators were called to 3655 Van Buren St., where they found Uwakwe Akpulonu. An autopsy was conducted Monday morning, but Akpulonu’s cause of death is still pending. Akpulonu resided at the Van Buren Street house and at 6418 S. Vernon St. in Chicago.

Gary Police Cpl. Gabrielle King said that police are aware of the death, but it is not being investigated as a homicide at this time.
