A leading labor leader is breaking with the mayor.
Jorge Ramirez, chief of the Chicago Federation of Labor, is breaking with Emanuel over the O’Hare janitors contract. Emanuel is taking the work away from the Service Employees International Union and giving it to United Services.
Ramirez is not pleased, “the relationship with the mayor is somewhat schizophrenic. There are some issues where we have disagreement on. We represent workers and we fight for the middle class. That’s what we do. That’s a hill that we’re supposed to die on and something I’m happy to do everyday.”
The Chicago Federation of Labor chief hinted at some job actions if the mayor does not re-bid the O’Hare janitorial contract.
