Story by 89 WLS Reporter Bill Cameron
(CHICAGO) Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy says his new foot patrols in crime hot spots are working, and even one of his critics agrees.
McCarthy figures his hotspot officers on foot are having an impact because there’s graffiti out there that uses the f-word saying, “f--- the foot patrols.”
One of the aldermen with hotspots in his south side ward who’s been a critic of McCarthy – Willie Cochran – thinks the new saturation tactic “has proven to be a winner.”
“But I just believe that the deployment of the officers has supported why I myself and other what other aldermen have said is that we need to hire more police officers (cackels with laughter!)”
He’s cackling there because Mayor Emanuel has been arguing for months that it’s not the number of cops you have but how you use them.
