The first lady's visit was great politics.
The star-studded Michelle Obama workout was good on so many levels, including politics … but WLS Radio reporter Bill Cameron couldn’t get the mayor to admit it.
Mayor Rahm Emanuel said, “Well I don’t think that’s why the first lady, Michelle, is doing it. She made this her mission regardless of the politics and I think when you’re improving the lives of your kids, it’s very good for the body politic”
WLS Radio reporter Bill Cameron asked the mayor, “I’m just thinking on the day before sequestration, Mr. Mayor, this really softens the image for the White House.”
Emanuel replied, "I can say this as a former chief of staff as well as the mayor. That’s not why she’s here. The most important reason she’s here is not to soften the image of t he white house, but to actually toughen up our kids with good exercise.”
The pictures of the first lady exercising with 6,500 adorable kids were very positive press.

First lady Michelle Obama headlined a star-studded workout at McCormick Place today to promote her crusade against childhood obesity.
At McCormick Place in a glitzy stage show the first lady announced “Let’s Move Active Schools” - $22 million in new federal grants to get 50,000 schools to come up with creative ways to get kids exercising before, during and after class all in the next five years.
First lady Michelle Obama said, “I ask myself all the time, where would I have been without all those activities that kept me safe and busy and off the streets?”
And just to help out, they raised the curtain to reveal 6500 Chicago school kids who joined the first lady around the stage for a workout.
