(CHICAGO) The big planned re-development of Navy Pier is contingent on DePaul getting that controversial basketball arena at McCormick place, but that's not a sure thing because it needs big public subsides.
Mayor Emanuel says Depaul’s $70 million contribution to the McCormick place expansion also makes the big update to Navy Pier possible.
But the $125 million in public subsides for the DePaul Arena are controversial. So if they aren’t approved, the Navy Pier redevelopment is at risk. According to McPier Chief Jim Reilly, here is what happens if the public subsides are not approved:
“As the mayor says, I don’t answer hypothetical questions…I’m just pretty confident the whole thing is gonna work.”
But if it doesn’t, Reilly concedes he doesn’t have another plan.
