(CHICAGO) The Chicago Police Department is adding more of those units that move quickly to hot spots.
It’s called Operation Impact and it sounds a lot like former police Superintendent Jody Weis’s old strike forces that flooded high crime areas, but his successor Garry McCarthy talks about it differently.
“Operation Impact is about hot-spot policing. We started doing it with overtime and now as the police officer classes are graduating, we’re moving those new officers into Operation Impact.”
And those new cops will make it possible for three more impact zones to be deployed with summer coming on.
