(CHICAGO) In Springfield last hour, an emotional moment of silence in the Ill. Senate as Newtown massacre parents showed up to demonstrate the need for more gun control in Illinois.
In Springfield, State Senate President John Cullerton told the chamber he wanted to put a face to the cost of illegal gun violence by introducing family representatives of the victims of Sandy Hook Elementary School.
“These individuals are not paid lobbyists. They aren’t political strategists. Instead, they are parents who are advocating for gun laws. While i commend their courage for being here today, i feel that a moment of silence for those they fight for is in order here today. I request at this time a moment of silence for their children daniel barden, benjamin wheeler and dylan hockley, the victims of sandy hook and the illinoisans who’ve mourned a loss due to gun violence.
Presiding officer: all our members please rise. Will our guests rise for a moment of silence. (moment of silence).”
