A police officer was injured after a wanted man pulled over during a traffic stop Tuesday night on the North Side tried driving away, police said.

The man was stopped about 11:30 p.m. in the 2000 block of West Howard Street, said police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro. He was apparently wanted by authorities in north suburban Evanston, near were he was pulled over, Alfaro said, and when officers approached his sports-utility vehicle, the man shifted it in reverse.

The SUV hit an officer’s foot, Alfaro said, and was taken to Saint Francis Hospital with minor injuries.

Officers were able to cuff the SUV’s driver, who was also taken to Saint Francis with minor injuries, Alfaro said.

Charges against the driver were pending Wednesday morning.
