(CHICAGO) At City Hall, Alderman Brendan Reilly's idea of exploring ways to kill the parking meter lease that's been driving up prices is getting some support in the City Council.
Three aldermen say they like Reilly’s initiative to at least explore buying out the parking meter company’s lease.
“Why don’t we borrow our way out of it if it’s such a horrible package?” Deborah Graham said.
“I think to ignore it or not even explore it, I don’t think that’s prudent,” Jason Ervin said. “I think just looking at it, exploring it and making a decision on the facts, I think we would be wrong not to do that.”
“I think we should never keep the door closed trying to renegotiate it and getting it back,” Walter Burnett Jr. said.
Buying out the dreaded lease is still a long shot, but it’s not being brushed off in the City Council.
