Story by 89 WLS Reporter Bill Cameron
(CHICAGO) Congressman Paul Ryan, the 2012 Republican vice-presidential candidate, is in Chicago touting immigration reform with Chicago congressman Luis Gutierrez.
Some say the Boston bombings and the immigrant suspects are reasons to put immigration reform on hold.
Ryan says no.
“I would say for the sake of our national security, we should modernize our immigration laws,” Ryan said. “We do not know even how to track people who overstay their visas. We need a modern immigration system that helps not only protects our border, but protects us in all our national security aspects. So, if anything, I would say this is an argument for modernizing our immigration laws.”
And Ryan says he still actually feels good about immigration reform getting done this year.
