(CHICAGO) A busy day in Springfield Thursday on pension reform.
While the State Senate was approving the pension reforms, the unions want on a vote of 40-16, House Speaker Mike Madigan was moving a bill to shift the cost of pensions for teachers outside of Chicago to local school boards. And he was sounding ominous.
"This is a government that’s in grave financial difficulty," Madigan said. "Let me repeat it. The Illinois government is a government that’s in grave financial difficulty. And we in the legislature, working with the governor, are struggling, struggling to right the ship."
And the speaker declared the cost shift is going to happen.
