(CHICAGO) Three people are dead and at least five people have been wounded in gun violence in the city late Friday through early Sunday, police said.
Hakeem Walton, 20, of Hammond, Ind., was pronounced dead at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn at 6:35 p.m. Sunday, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.
Roughly 16 hours earlier on Saturday, police say Walton was in the backseat of a car in the 2700 block of East 84th Street when gunfire rang out and the back window of the vehicle shattered about 2:15 a.m. Police initially said the shooting occurred in the 8500 block of South Burnham Avenue.
When the other passengers turned to Walton, they saw he was shot in the back of the head, they told police.
The driver of the vehicle took Walton to Advocate Trinity Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition, police said. He was later transferred to Christ Hospital, where he died.
About 2:15 a.m. Sunday, a male died after being shot in the head in the North Side Logan Square neighborhood in the 3500 block of West Diversey Avenue, police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli said. The medical examiner’s office could not immediately confirm the death.
About 5:19 a.m. Sunday, a male died after being shot in the 3300 block of West Crystal Street in the Humboldt Park neighborhood, police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli said. The medical examiner’s office could not immediately confirm the death.

About 11:40 p.m. Friday, a man was shot in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood on the South Side by a man who wanted to buy some cannabis from him.
The 24-year-old victim was in the 6900 block of South Vernon Avenue when he was approached by another man who asked him if he had any cannabis to sell, police News Affairs Officer Jose Estrada said. The victim said he didn’t, and the other man then took out a gun and shot him.
The victim was struck in the lower back and left thigh, Estrada said. He was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, where his condition was stablized, Estrada said.
A man driving in the North Side Roscoe Village neighborhood Saturday morning was wounded when someone in another vehicle shot him. The man was driving in the 3400 block of North Western Avenue about 5 a.m. when someone in a gray vehicle opened fire on his car, according to Estrada.
The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the back and was able to drive himself to Swedish Covenant Hospital, where his condition was stable, Estrada said.
A 21-year-old man was shot in the leg in the Grand Boulevard neighborhood on the South Side about 11 p.m. Saturday in the 100 block of East 49th Street, police said.
The man was taken in “stable” condition to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, police said.
A man and a woman were wounded -- one critically -- in a shooting outside a pizzeria in the Pilsen neighborhood outside Benny’s Pizza, 1244 W. 18th St., about 20 minutes after midnight Sunday, authorities said.
The 23-year-old woman was in critical condition after she was shot in the face and taken to Stroger, police said. The man, whose age was not immediately available, was shot in the arm and taken to Stroger in good condition.
