Story by 89 WLS reporter Bill Cameron
The Ricketts family wants to renovate Wrigley Field for the Cubs and concerts and Mayor Emanuel wants a deal by the end of this week, but the plan would break a big promise.
The Ricketts proposal to put more signs in Wrigley Field actually breaks a promise made by Tom Ricketts himself.
In 2010 Tom Ricketts gave the following response to City Hall giving him permission to put up that Toyota sign above left field, "There's no plans for any more signs in the outfield. Secondly, if there were, I can't imagine it would be possible to find a spot that would work. I mean it took a long time and a lot of work both on our own and with the commission to find the one spot where we could have a sign. And so I don't even think it's a possibility."
But it is now.
