(CHICAGO) Alderman Sandi Jackson - wife of embattled ex-Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr. - showed up at City Hall this afternoon. She showed up for a City Council Finance Committee meeting. Going in, she defiantly denied she's planning to resign.

"I am not resigning. I'm here. I'm working. I'm gonna continue to work. And whoever these people are who purport to speak for me - stop! I'm asking them to please, stop! If you don't hear it from my office via a press release or from me, then it is not coming from me. I will finish my term. I intend to finish my term - unless something catastrophic happens like I step outside and get hit by a bus today," she exclaimed.

A reporter then said "or go to jail," and Jackson responded by saying "I don't know. Ya know, I'm not going to entertain questions like that. I really am not."

Sandi Jackson said she really wishes people would stop paying attention to rumors. She said this is not reality TV, this is real life.

CHICAGO (AP) - The wife of former Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr. says she's not interested in running for the seat her husband held for nearly 17 years.

Chicago alderman Sandi Jackson told reporters Tuesday that she intends to finish her term on the City Council. Her name has been floated as a potential replacement for her husband in the House.

Jesse Jackson Jr. resigned last month citing health problems and acknowledging that he's under federal investigation, reportedly for misusing campaign funds.

Sandi Jackson has represented a South Side ward since 2007, in the same area as her husband's former House district.

Several candidates have said they're running in the Feb. 26 special election primary. Jackson Jr.'s brother, Jonathan Jackson, says he's considering it.

Their father is civil rights leader, the Rev. Jesse Jackson.
