Senator Durbin is holding a hearing today on proposals to try to keep guns away from criminals and the sister of a slain Chicago police officer testified.
In Washington, Sandy Wortham, whose police officer brother Tom was killed by robbers trying to steal his motorcycle in front of the family home in 2010, told the Durbin hearing she's not anti-gun, but pro law-abiding citizens.
"The only people who should be disturbed by common sense gun laws are people who shouldn't have guns in the first place. Law-abiding citizens shouldn't be disturbed by the proposals here today," said Wortham.
But the pro-gun rights senators on the committee argued that more laws won't prevent bad guys from getting guns.
